Roots in Social Work and Advocacy

 
Garcia-Morales’ career in education began as a school social worker, a role that greatly influenced his leadership style. In this capacity, he supported multilingual learners and students with special needs, advocating for their academic and emotional needs. His experience in The Bronx helped him understand the importance of addressing students' educational and emotional challenges. This foundation in social work reinforced his belief that education should serve as a platform for social justice, allowing all students to achieve their potential.
 
As Garcia-Morales moved into school administration, he continued to focus on student advocacy. His work as Assistant Principal at Tyee High School and Cleveland High School involved improving school culture, ensuring student safety, and maintaining high academic standards. These experiences helped him develop a leadership approach to creating positive and supportive learning environments.

In 2021, Ray Garcia-Morales took on the role of Principal at Chief Sealth International High School, where he has made significant strides in shaping the school’s culture and enhancing academic outcomes. A strong focus on mental health support and academic achievement marks his leadership. He believes that students’ well-being is essential for their success and has prioritized mental health initiatives at the school.
 
Under Garcia-Morales' leadership, the school has improved its academic performance and climate. He has worked to foster an environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to excel. His focus on instructional leadership, staff development, and community involvement has contributed to the school’s positive growth. Garcia-Morales has also impacted outside education through his entrepreneurial venture, Rebels & Scholars. Between 2014 and 2020, he co-founded this clothing brand to support social justice causes and empower students. The brand was mainly focused on providing scholarships for undocumented students pursuing higher education. Though the business was successful, he chose to step away to focus on his principal responsibilities and continue his education work.
 
His commitment to the community extends to volunteerism, as he has supported various local organizations, including El Centro de la Raza, YouthCare, and FareStart. His ongoing volunteer efforts demonstrate his dedication to social justice and community development. Garcia-Morales currently works with the Union Gospel Mission and the Washington State Department of Corrections, focusing on supporting mental health and community well-being.
